You cannot delete folders using Thunderbird if you use uw-imap. Whenever Thunderbird deletes something, messages or folders, it wants to move it into the trash. Since uw-imap does not support folders that hold messages and folders, Thunderbird fails when it tries to move the folder to the trash. > So I temporarily renamed that folder to Old-Trash. > Then I went into the account settings and told it to merely mark deleted > items as "deleted" rather than move to Trash (no other options except > delete immediately.) What do you mean by ``it moves them to under your account folder''. Weren't your folders already under your account? > Finally, I renamed the OldTrash to Trash and > reset my delete rule to "move to Trash". > > BTW, you can leave the "mark as deleted" option on and periodically > rt-click the folder and choose "Compact" to get rid of them permanently. You actually have to do this regardless of your delete settings. One could consider this a real bug in Thunderbird (although it was a design decision that they consciously made). When you delete a message in Thunderbird, it _copies_ it to the Trash _and_ marks it as deleted in its current folder (so deleting a something actually takes up twice the space). It will remain hidden in its original folder for all eternity, taking up space on the server, unless someone comes across the compact folders menu item and says, ``I wonder what this does?'' and selects it. dd -- David Dooling _______________________________________________ CWE-LUG mailing list [email protected] http://www.cwelug.org/ http://www.cwelug.org/archives/ http://www.cwelug.org/mailinglist/
