No they were in a subfolder called mail.

You are right, this is the apparent behavior under uw-imap+tbird.. It
tries to move deleted folders to Trash. If you move the IMAP Trash
folder physically, it actually copies the deleted folder under your home
directory (sibling to INBOX.) Allowing you to delete it permanently.

I looked into this a bit more. Here is where TBird keeps your profile
(one Windows):
C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Application
Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\default\nhjo21jl.slt

The [nhjo21jl.slt] may be unique to your(my) machine.

[prev path]\ImapMail\<Server address> is where the various .msf files
reside. Each of these files is an index into your cached mail headers
from the IMAP messages in a folder. [1]

If you have done something to get these files out of sync with your
physical IMAP folders, then you should remove the [foldername].msf files
from your profile (make a backup first.) TBird will recreate the
existing ones IMAP sees when it relaunches. [2]

A similar problem to mine [3] In the end, I could not use the delete
.msf technique from the profile. I had to use the touch file on my
server home dir method.

I guess uw-imap is my main problem, as I have previously reported. If
TBird had some other options for deleting folders and/or messages it
would be nice.

Thanks for the info.
