Is there a way in Firefox to view the source in something other than
with the Firefox default source viewer, preferably with running the
HTML through tidy first?

Currently, when I want to read the HTML source of a web page that I'm
viewing with Firefox, I View > Source, copy the source HTML to a
file, run it through tidy, and then view it with less. Is there a
better way? For example, can the Web Developer extension for Firefox
do something like that and, if so, how?
