Automatic- there is a boot cd option for a LAMP install.

However, if this is meant to be a "development" machine, then you may  
want X. In that case, it may be easier to do a standard Ubuntu  
install and then pull in the requisite packages for your LAMP stack.

Apache will start at boot as you expect.
