The problem is, as those of who have used other file systems know, ext3 is sloooooow.
As a SuSE user since 1998, I can say I have noticed a big speed improvement with ReiserFS, and would say to that I prefer XFS to Reiser also. XFS (and JFS too) has very quick recovery when compared to ext3. ext3 suffers in almost every respect on disk benchmarks when compared to XFS, ReiserFS and JFS. XFS does paarticularly well when handling large files. Also, if you read the whole post, he leaves the possibility of migrating to XFS open, as they want to migrate away from ReiserFS, not to ext3. I would urge SuSE to adopt XFS, or even JFS before ext3.
