Smartfilter blocks solely on URL. So the pages content didn't get flagged for profanity, but the general site had been. They have a URL checker here: http://www.trustedsource.org/urlcheck/
I just checked "http://theonion.com" and it has been classified as both "humor/comics" and "profanity" so I was pretty close on my guesses before.
