Yes. They do indeed persist on the server. As for it being in my cache directory, that's not really applicable here because 1) I am using wget and 2) I am intentionally storing the session cookie to a file. Under normal conditions a session cookie (i.e. one without an expiration date) would only be held in memory and not be writen to the drive. The point of this exercise was to see how long a server will accept a session cookie.
