IMHO, if you own a 64-bit capable box, to get your money's worth, install a 64-bit OS regardless of the amount of memory install (or the amount of additional memory you plan to install.) 64-bit Ubuntu is now very well supported. It seems to me that if someone is only going to have a 32-bit OS installed (with 4 GBs or less of RAM), might as well not waste the extra money on a 64-bit capable processor. The machine you mentioned just begs for a 64-bit OS.
I know I will probably get tarred, feathered, drawn, and quartered by the group for this. It seems that the consensus of the group is that since 32-bit is better supported and more stable, only install 64-bit if you will have more than 4 GB of physical RAM installed. Oh well, that's my 2 cents. I am merely a hobbyist and have been using linux for just less then a year.
