Wink worked for me on 8.04, but not very well. I tried VLC, but couldn't figure out the magic sequence of characters to make it screencast.
I did get Istanbul to work. I'll post the tips on how later tonight. And I was able to edit using avidemux. Have yet to try pitivi.
