Confirmed. Ubuntu 8.10 hangs when 'sudo init 1' is typed in a terminal. One note: if you type ctrl-alt-bkspc it boots right back up.
Another note: when I did this in 8.04 and resumed from the Dos-like menu it killed access to my usb ports. So this may be a bigger bug than it appears.
