Because I'm not the one with the problem -- and I don't think "tell the user they shouldn't use the email application they know and have used for years" is necessarily the correct answer, whether it's true or not. Besides, I have tried getting him to use other apps, like Thunderbird, but he's old and stubborn, knows what he knows, and doesn't take kindly to change.
And, it isn't for accessing a Gmail account, it's for accessing a Cable America POP3 account. Finally, I'd like to know how Shuttleworth expects people to take Ubuntu seriously, when the default email client contains such a poorly-documented show-stopping multi-year old bug?
