Last week I slipped on some ice whilst carrying my laptop. Shattered screen. Went to www.laptopscreen.com and got another one for $75. The new screen works fine, but there are a couple of problems. 1) I was not able to get the bezel back on properly. For some reason, maybe the screen is a mil or two wider, the bottom part of the bezel did not seal properly. I'm hoping Tom can help at the next meeting. Asus K601.
2) And the more immediate problem: I rebooted the computer to show everyone what a broken screen looked like. Of course, the screen was shattered so all anyone could see were the black lines and splotches across the screen with some lighter areas, so I couldn't shut down properly. I had to press the start button until the computer shut down. When I booted after installing the screen the system tried to fix itself. I had this wonderful idea to boot from a live cd and run fsck, so I shut down the system again after half an hour. Then I got gibberish on the screen when I started it again, after I failed to locate the live cd. Well, I obviously found the cd and am considering reinstalling. I am concerned about wiping out my home partition and have backed up those items that say I have access to them. In addition I ran gparted to identify whether my partitions were in order. It said my home partition was fine, while my / partition is screwed. BTW, grub works fine, and the boot says /sbin/init is missing or damaged. I cannot mount my / partition. So. I am babbling here.... Sorry I guess I'll have to google it. -- Central West End Linux Users Group (via Google Groups) Main page: http://www.cwelug.org To post: [email protected] To subscribe: [email protected] To unsubscribe: [email protected] More options: http://groups.google.com/group/cwelug
