The only live CD I could find was 10.10 and I downloaded that the day
of the release. It doesn't install properly. That is, it hangs on the
second screen of the install process. So I decided to delete the /
partition, and of course that removes grub.

Now I'm downloading 10.04--onto my home partition so I can burn it to
a cd--which is the version I really want anyway.

Furthermore, I also borked my backup drive version of Ubuntu the same
way I borked Ubuntu... by trying to boot and failing to log in.

Let this be a lesson to all of us--me mostly. Never unplug,
ctrl-alt-del, hold in the power button without completing a login.
