1) From what I can gather after reading the main website for the software, it
almost seems to me that the games can be played without
actually owning the hard copy of the game. Is this right, or is there
something I don't understand?
>
Well you can download the game box with out owning it, but you could not play
it unless you made up rules as you went along or somehow got someone to send
you the rules for free. What I have tended to do is to download all the game
boxes for games that I have and then for ones that interest me I download a set
and see if the mechanics looks plausible or if it may intrest me. If it does I
order the game (or try to win it on ebay) two examples of this are SPI's Sinai
and DG's GoSFG. The former I downloaded an like the game box so much that I won
it on ebay (the actual game) and the other I got with my S&T subscription and
downloaded the game box.
>
2) Exactly which software do I have to download to play a game over email? My
first game will be "The Burning Blue" (maybe not the best choice as it will be
my first "complicated" wargame, but the review on gameboardgeek. com convinced
me to dive right in).
>
Well first you need Cyberboard 3.01 and the game box if it is available (there
are a lot of sites, check Consimworld for a list or ask here). Then you need an
internet connection and some type of email account. You can use Outlook,
Thunderbird, or any other Web Based free email like Yahoo, Gain, MSN, and / or
Comcast, etc.
>
3) Will the gamemap already be contained within the "gamebox" that I download,
or do I have to use the editor to create the map. If its already there, I
refer you again to question 1.
>
Yes in each module there should be counters and a map otherwise you could not
play the game. Again, if you don't own the game I don't see how you could play
it with out the rules and charts. Cyberboard does not have or contain any rules
and very few charts are included. So I guess I just don't understand your
point. Yes the modules are free to download, but if you don't own the game and
don't have the rules or charts it's not going to be of much use to you, unless
you "steal" the rules and charts from someone. Like I pointed out above once I
downloaded the Sinai game box I looked at it, looked at the map, looked at the
counters and said to myself, this looks like a good game, so then I went to
Consimworld and started reading through the posts on Sinai and then I got it
for about 40 on ebay. Whala bing, Whala bang.
>
This looks pretty interesting but I'm unsure of the mechanics. Any help would
be appreciated.
>
Mechanics are another thing, some like ADC2, some like Vassal, some like to use
MS Excell (yuk!), and some love Cyberboard. I like Cyberboard best cause it's
most like the real board game.
