A club member of mine has a .308 sporter which has
terrible problems with 7.62 nato ammunition, ie feed
and extraction difficulties. It may be because the gun
is a cheap one but it is reliable enough with .308
Norma ammo. Most 7.62 brass has a thicker case wall
and lower internal volume than commercial .308 brass
although not always. 7.62 bullets seem to run out about
half a thou smaller than their commercial equivalents,
and often with a different base style (ignoring
differing overall bullet styles). Different spec or
just manufacturing variations?
