From: "pendrous", [EMAIL PROTECTED] By Terry Pendrous, Yesterday, the 9th August, I visited the Pattern Room at Nottingham ROF along with 8 others from Chelmsford 1944 Rifle Club, and friends. I do not think I can say with any more enthusiasm, how well we were received by the current staff, and that it was with out a doubt one of the best Tours I have ever experienced. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a fantastic display, and far better than any museum I have ever visited. Wall to Wall, rack to rack, and table to table goodies on EVERY scale, with a superb oratory by the guys who work there. They are very proud of the collection, especially those marked No 1 of some types of Rifles. It made one simply drool, as to quality and quantity. Needless to say, security is very tight as one would expect, but not withstanding an organised visit is more than recommended. Incidently, because of the concern that I have about the shutting down of ROF, I asked what was going to happen to this collection. Luckily, it is the Property of the MOD, and appears relocation is on the cards. It must be--this lot is far too good to be disposed of. It is a National Treasure, and should be treated accordingly. Sorry about banging on, but really, it is worth a visit by all the list members if possible. A couple of US citizens joined us on this visit, and were in the reception when we arrived. They were undertaking research on Maxim guns I believe. The bloke was obviously well known and seems to have been there before. Hah, as most Americans, he knew his way round the equipment, being very knowledgeable. Hmmm, and professed to having some of the kit on show, lucky blighter. Still, good luck to him and all like him. -- So did you handle the MP5 with 40mm grenade launcher<G>? Steve.
