It may be only of passing interest but this sure made me angry.
My son has been shooting (handguns and rifles of many calibres) since he was
eight and he is pretty good at handgun. Just turned fourteen and I want to
encourage him as much as possible so applied for an FAC for him. Waited four
weeks and then followed up the app and was told that it would likely be
three months before it was issued. They are so busy with renewals. They also
inform me that my son will have to have a home visit and the security
arrangements checked. I'm an RFD (which they obviously know) and my son will
be, of course, using the same facilities. So really they are taking the
opportunity to check on me!!!!!! And I get a yearly check anyway????? We are
now awaiting a home visit from 'a field officer' who will assess my son's
attitude and approach to shooting. Who are these people???? Anybody
know?????? When asked why this was all necessary I was told 'it all came in
after Dunblane' So there we have it, they are now applying the rigorous
checks that they should have applied to Hamilton.

I think it's about time someone took the police to judicial review
on the time they are taking to process renewals, I have had nothing
but complaints about it. Mind you, I knew this was going to happen
when Cullen said all renewals had to have a home visit.

Fortunately my FAC was one of the last to expire under the old
rules so by the time it expires again they will have got it all
sorted out!

Steve.
