OK, I have been using black powder for a very long time -
I will say again that black powder is NOT corrosive. It
does not contain anything that is corrosive, nor do the
products of combustion contain anything that is.
There are a lot of myths about how corrosive black powder
is. In my experience, and it is experience, not what
someone else has said they heard from someone else who
overheard it on the range - nor even just something read,
and taken for gospel etc. Pyrodex IS corrosive, black
powder is NOT. Try it for yourself:
Get some clean mild steel sheet, ignite a quantity of
black powder on one and a quantity of Pyrodex on another.
Then leave it and see for yourself.
(I've just had a thought, perhaps Nick could carry out
a controlled experiment for us?)
I also tried hitting some black powder with a hammer,
I got smaller grains!
