David Steed - The Case for Interest on Delayed Compensation
Payments
On 18th May the House of Lords unanimously dismissed an
attempt by Home Secretary Jack Straw to strike out an action
brought by David Steed in respect of interest payable to
former hand gun owners resulting from the Government's
compensation Scheme. Mr Steed is: "...determined to press
ahead with his claim to seek fair and just treatment from
the Government on behalf of former handgun owners."
More recently, we understand that David Steed has settled
out of Court and that offers are being made to other
individuals who have issued proceedings in respect of payment
of interest for surrendered firearms so that their cases
might also be settled out of Court.
We further understand that the offer is based on standard
court procedures of 8% per annum.

I spoke to David Steed about this previously, he told me
not to tell anyone but the cat is out of the bag now.
The Home Office have agreed to pay his claim, basically.
The best approach is to write to the FCS in the first
instance.
Steve.
