Steve,
Sealand Ranges have been teetering on the brink of closure
for years. It was originally a four range site, but has
been allowed to wither to a two range site, one of which is
only 100vds. If the military find it uneconomical, they will
simply abandon it and let it decay, like they did to Rainham
in Essex. It could be developed into a shooting complex for
instance, for target shooting, clay shooting archery and
field target shooting. All it needs is time to organise, a
good dose of lottery money and the support of the "mighty ones".
The "danger area" is the silted-up Dee estuary and because
of exclusion of hikers over the decades, has become a
fantastic bird sanctuary. Shooting activity is perfectly
compatible with this form of conservation.
If Cybershooters could write to Kate Hoey, Sports Minister,
pleading for help, time and maybe some money, something might
be done. You do not have to live in the area to support this
cause.
