I had a great deal of fun on Saturday using the electronic
targets on the 300m range at Bisley. Having grown
increasingly frustrated with the marking in the past
I decided to shell out the extra cash to use the electronics.

I have to say it is the most fun I have had shooting
in this Godforsaken country since handguns were banned.

Marking is immediate, so you don't have to wait for
the marker. Plus you can't sit there moaning about
the dozy marker making some sort of mistake.

The only problems I had were that it failed to pick
up three of my shots, plus it didn't want to score my
offhand. Either my offhand is much worse than I think
it is or there was something about the angle of the
bullets or something else it didn't like.

I was using 5.56mm, so bullet size doesn't seem to
be a problem.

The RO staff expressed the view to me that they wished
all the 100m and 200m and GR points used electronic
targets, but in their view that would never happen
because the NRA has their head stuck in the sand.

I personally thought using the electronic targets was
an absolute bargain, for one thing the 300m range was
deserted, plus although it costs more you can get a
hell of a lot more shooting done.

I thought it was brilliant myself, I learnt more about
shooting from the kneeling position in one afternoon
than in the past year!

If you get bored shooting the standard ISSF five-ring
target the electronics also allow ten-ring or even
one hundred-ring scoring!

The setup obviously dispenses with spotting and you can
rapidly figure out what your sight settings should be
and which ammunition is shooting the best. There is
also a paper printout so you don't even need to take
your logbook with you.
