Some of the most enjoyable shooting matches I have ever shot
in were the falling plate rifle matches and their pistol
equivalent the Bargrave Dean Tiles match at Bisley each
Services Meeting. They always attracted a crowd and were
enjoyed by shooters and spectators alike. I am sure that
they would make good TV.

Sadly, I have also often met the po-faced attitude described
in several of the postings on this subject. These attitudes
often came from 22 rifle shooters but I have also encountered
them from muzzle loading rifle shooters. One such attitude
by a club secretary resulted in the whole club being shut
down temporarily. This character did not like pistol
shooters/ing and got the local range licensing officer along
to look at the range because he (the secretary) thought that
the range was not suitable for pistol shooting (angles etc.
for shooting off-hand) You're quite right said the licensing
officer, and the angles for rifle shooting are inadequate too.
He shut the whole range complex down until major works were
undertaken on the range banking.

The prat involved, needless to say, was not popular but
apparently retained his appointment; presumably with the
support of enough like-minded individuals.

Cheers
David
