Oh - please you are winding us up surely - it is bloody awful - it is much
worse than you originally implied. It is stupid - Russia sneaking in
thousands of troops in on civilian flights and then liaising with Nicaragua
and Cuba for a 3 pronged attack on America? That's not stupid? The fact
that this alliance overruns America and the might of its armed forces in
the space of weeks and then a bunch of kids manage to beat the whole of
this Russian force all by themselves. That's not stupid?
You can make much better films on the topics of liberty, patriotism and
self reliance - and loads have been made. Bearing in mind that this was
released when the president of the USA was calling Russia the 'Evil Empire'
this film can't even even be called propaganda it is so obvious. Its not
even a good war film - it was more like 'The A team' except it took itself
seriously.
Was Rocky IV a good film? Was John Wayne's 'The Green Berets' a good film?
(ahh - whole books could be written about how bad this was). Remember the
pathetic and nauseatingly embarrassing final scenes in both these films -
they are nothing compared to the final flag waving scenes in Red Dawn.

Red Dawn is much better than the Green Berets.
The actual storyline is that the Russians are starving to death, so in
that situation it is plausible they might try invading the US.
And as I recall the kids only cause problems for the Cubans in one small
town, and most of them end up getting killed. I thought it was quite
a good film actually, but then I thought Dirty Harry was reasonable, both
films by the same director as I recall.
