John Milius, the director of Red Dawn, was an uncredited writer on the first
Dirty Harry in 1971. Beyond that, I cannot find any other connection
between the two movies.
Buzz Feitshans, one of the producers of Red Dawn, was also a producer on the
Rambo series, though. That might explain where Red Dawn got its entirely
plausable understanding of all matters military.
