I just thought I would share with you my wisdom after shooting
some Geco 9mm today though my Armalon PC rifle.

I don't know how much 9mm I have gotten through in my life
but it must be in six figures by now.

Recently I have gotten exasperated (and bored) with PMC 9mm
which works okay but it doesn't have stellar accuracy and
leaves too much crud in the action of the gun. PMC is
about the only 9mm that I can find in this country with
the exception of RG which is even worse and Howitzer which
is slightly worse.

I came to the conclusion when I lived in the US that CCI
ammo was the best quality ammo, but it's excessively hot
for target shooting. Geco then came out (this was around
1993) with a load in a blue and black box specifically
designed for IPSC, in that it was designed purely to
clear minor power factor with enough power to cycle guns
reliably. Fortunately I bought a large quantity from
Kiesler's police supply at a bargain price and rapidly
used it all up.

So being fed up with PMC I recently imported a case
of the same Geco 9mm, and it works better in my Armalon
than any of the other half dozen or so brands I have
tried in it. Straight off I shot a ten-shot 2" group
at 50m with it from the bench. Also the gun cycled
better with it because it is a lighter load so extraction
is not so sticky. Accuracy I presume is due to better
bullet design and more consistent loading of the ammo.

So far as I know no other major manufacturer makes an
inexpensive load expressly for target shooting (mmm,
except maybe Fiocchi). Many others make a generic load
but it's usually aimed also at police and military training
contracts, not just civilians, so it's usually loaded hotter
than it needs to be. Federal and others make SWC loads and
the like for really serious target shooting but not an
inexpensive FMJ load tailored _just_ for that.

I just thought I would pass this pearl of wisdom on because
I must have tried every commercial make and loading of 9mm
there is and a large proportion of the military loadings,
and I have fired the Geco load through my rifle, submachineguns
and many pistols, and I have never found anything to compare
for the money. In fact I would go so far as to say Federal
Gold Medal isn't any better and it costs three times as much.

Yes, I know I should handload, tell me where I can get Geco
bullets and I'll think about it! Looking at the bullets they
seem to have a much longer bearing surface than any of the
other 9mm I've got.

The only problem is getting it in this country, although
there is a UK importer for Geco/Dynamit-Nobel so perhaps it
is possible to order it.

Steve.
