A teenager who died from a gunshot wound during a break from his boarding
school would have known where to look for the key to the gun cabinet at his
home, his mother told an inquest today.

Rutland and North Leicester coroner Trevor Kirkman said Alexander Cooper,
13, was a pupil at Cothill House School near Oxford but the incident happened
when he was at his home at Grange Farm, Exton, Leics.

The inquest heard that he was expected to go to Harrow.

Pathologist Dr Kevin West of Leicester Royal Infirmary said Alexander died
on March 13 this year from a gunshot wound to the head.

Mr Kirkman told the inquest at Oakham that the first person to find
Alexander was Johannah Long, who was known as Claire. She was originally
employed as a nanny then a housekeeper and lived at the farm with Mr and Mrs
Cooper.

Alexander's mother Joanna said: "Alexander was concerned about his work
because he had exams coming up but he was normal and seemed happy.

"Guns were stored in a locked cabinet in the boot room and Alexander would
have known where to search for the key.

"I was in my bedroom washing my hair when Claire screamed my name and said
`Come quickly'. I saw Alexander and was told to ring for an ambulance. He was
lying on the floor and so was the gun but I can't remember which direction it
was pointing in.

"There was no indication anything was bothering him if there had been he
would have told me."
