Yes in one occasion Lee Marvin gave an account of his
'winning' the the Purple Heart on an edition of Parkinson
- as he put it he was 'shot in the A**!' while assaulting
one of the Pacific islands.

Douglas Fairbanks was a US Navy officer in a special forces
style 'beach-jumper' unit.

James Stewart was a USAAF Colonel (I believe he led a B17
Squadron based in Britain) and remeanined in the USAF
Reserve attaining the rank of General. A report of his
funeral and one of his obituarys made mention of his
dislike of the 'Hollywood Scene' and the presence of a
USAF Honour Guard at his funeral.

Regards

Jerry
