All firearms should be treat as loaded with live ammunition. This
tragedy would not have happened if this basic safety procedure had been
adhered to and what the Hell were they using live ammunition for? That
is what should give cause for concern more than anything. This bloke was
supposed to be giving advice and instruction on the safe handling of
firearms and forgot the basics, how many of the people he had "trained"
are out there with potentially dangerous "bad habits" because of his
crap training? This is another of the tragedies that occur because some
plod think they are so superior and that anything they do is
automatically perfect and beyond reproach. I realise that in their job
they must evince an aura of confidence and competance, but this should
come from being good at the job, not from being bullshitted into
believing they are better than everybody else. If the police were able
to go to civilian pistol ranges to perfect their abilities, then this
daft bugger would have been sharply reminded of any transgression of
"safe firearms handling" by just about every shooter that observed them
(I know I have been bollocked more times than I care to admit, but they
were justified and were intended for my education and the safety of
others). We all make mistakes, but when you set out as a firearms
trainer you are not allowed the luxury of making mistakes.
