Without being at the noise tests it is impossible to
take a view on the particular proposal; though it
seems possible that given the area of land involved,
and the possibilities of abatement by landscaping,
tree-planting and so on, there would be no real nuisance.
What there will always be is objectors. I say this
with feeling, as I belong (without living there at the
moment) to a small town known to you all; a mile to the
north a 600-yard range has been silent since March 1996,
and whenever the local estates run a pheasant shoot the
copshop switchboard lights up with residents threatening
a nervous breakdown unless the guns fall silent at once.
One could always hear shooting, but it was never a
problem. However what will happen now is that every time
there is a proposal for a range, or a problem with an
existing one, the antis will get busy. If the Faulds think
the thing can play, they should get on with it, or
prevention or closure of ranges is another way shooting
will be rolled back.
Yours sincerely

Given our results in the women's events, one wonders if
Mr Faulds ought to invite his neighbours around and bring
them into the fold!
