A preview show of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Ben Elton's new
West End musical had to be stopped briefly when one of
the leading ladies was shot in the face by a stage gun.

The incident occurred halfway through the second act of
The Beautiful Game, which is previewing at the Cambridge
Theatre in Earlham Street, central London.

Josie Walker, who plays Mary in the show about a group
of Belfast teenagers, was slightly hurt but continued
with the performance after a short break.

The musical, which opens on Tuesday night, tells the
story of a Belfast-based football team at the start of
the troubles.

It is the first collaboration between composer Lloyd
Webber and comic Elton.

A spokesman for The Beautiful Game said: "The show was
stopped briefly in the second act when Josie Walker was
involved in a minor accident involving a stage gun.

"The show continued after a five-minute break, with
Josie Walker. No-one was harmed. Josie Walker will be
on stage tonight."
