The following letter was sent to The Times by the
Chairman of the British Shooting Sports Council.

Dear Sir

Olympic Gold

Your report of the Minister of Sport hugging the
Olympic shooting champion, Richard Faulds, was a
delight to read.

Undountedly, the Minister is aware of the degree of
dedication required if one so young is to succeed in
top level competition. Those who know Richard will
be aware of his high regard for the safe and disciplined
approach to shooting, which all shooting organisations
demand from their members.

The continuing problem of violence in society is often
associated with young men and it was heart-warming that,
at the moment of his success, Richard remembered the
tragedy of Dunblane and the deep sadness it occassioned
and still does.

The shooting world salutes Richard and his fellow
competitors and are proud that he is such an excellent
ambassador for the youth of his country.

Yours faithfully,

Patrick Lawrence
Chairman
