        Well, glory be! And Steve? You have my sympathies!
        Try keeping warm with a 'dixie cup' on your noggin
in the dead of winter!
        Us US Sailor types had to stand deck watches with
nothing more than melton wool blues, a pea coat made of the
same material and not much else.
        Some people were always saying how warm that uniform
is, well, I'll say that they either had antifreeze in their blood from
their last good shore leave, or they were pulling one hell of a leg!
        I can remember being told that insulated undies were
verboten and that we had to stand watch in regulation service
uniforms. I am here to tell you that the wind blows neatly through
those 'service' uniforms!
        There were times that I thought I'd grown icicles in the
nether regions (as elsewhere)!
