Will it really be so soon? I remember when I was in primary school
people were saying oil would run out in 20-30 years and that was 20-30
years ago.
Back on topic...
While we are all discussing what should be the appropriate level of
controls, I feel that all guns should be subject to the level of control
currently over section 2 guns, whether a single shot .410 or a
.50calibre machine gun. If someone is considered fit to possess a gun it
shouldn't matter what type it is or how many they have, and yes, I also
believe that self defence should be a good reason for possession.
Crossing into IG's thread from the SA board, you say we don't need guns
for defence in the UK. Can you guarantee that in my life I will NEVER
need a gun for defence? If not, just as I wear a seat belt "just in
case" and have a smoke alarm "just in case", why shouldn't I have a
firearm "just in case". If I don't need it and have one available, I was
wrong but so what? If I do need it and you were wrong, I die. It only
takes one "rare" event to kill me. Does this view make me one of your
"dodgy" characters?

yes, when I was in school they said the same thing, but I am
assured by the experts that in 30 years time oil will be in
such short supply we'd better have something else to use!
The problem with the argument that we should have Section 2
controls on everything, which I have seen a lot of people
advocate including SAGBNI is that we can't because the
European Firearms Directive requires "individual authorisation"
for Category B firearms, which includes handguns and most
semi-autos.
I can't see how we can amend that law, and even the tories
aren't going to take us out of the EU!
Steve.
