The speeding prosecutions mentioned here are a problem as at
even the relatively modest speeds mentioned here the average
car speedometer is not sufficiently accurate (nor does it need
to be by law!). If I remember the figures correctly the speedo
only needs to be accurate to 4 MPH or 10% of the speed the
vehicle is travelling at.
As regards ACPO it seems their 'guidance' is rapidly becoming
'the' interpretation of the law. Slightly worrying as they are
virtually unaccountable to anyone but themselves (barring expensive
court cases, etc).

I spoke to a couple of traffic coppers about this some time ago
and they told me the formula they use is 10% + 2, i.e. they'll
pull you over for 35 in a 30, 46 in a 40 and so on.
Oh well, I can't wait to see what argument ACPO comes out with
in court.
