"Strict Gun Laws Exist"

To the Editor:
The recent shooting in a Wendy's restaurant in Queens (front page, May 26) is
sure to resurrect the gun control debate. However, the fact remains that
almost all mass shootings have occurred in places where, either by law or by
policy, guns are restricted.

New York City has some of the toughest gun control laws in America. So does
Washington, D.C., the scene of a shooting at the national zoo last month.
Federal law prohibits possession of guns in schools.

Our nation's crime rate is at its lowest in many years. Gun ownership is also
at record levels, with more than 200 million guns in private hands. Why can't
the gun control lobby see the connection?
