From: nick royall, [EMAIL PROTECTED] When I have shot on Pirbright what I see through or over my sights is a target with a bloody great sand berm immediately behind it. If a bullet was to miss this then it does go in the direction of stickledown butts if you are on the far right of Pirbright but generally the bullet will hit the ground in the same place as a miss from Stickledown itself, behind the butts there. Far from being ludricous I consider it an unexplored idea. The vehicle itself would pose no more of a hazard than the ground as far as ricochets go and I have shot on ranges where there are far worse hazards (Salisbury plain for example, littered with dead vehicles or Deal with all those large cobbles) yet no-one says that should not be used. If you were to apply a statistical model to it I think you would find (other than expense) it had something going for it. if you really wanted to, the vehicle could be covered in a skin of impact absorbing MMC and then some companies might sponsor it for research. Just because it has never been done does not mean it is not possible. The NRA could very well extend the shooting times at Bisley and generate additional income and not be forced to refund people for screwed up range bookings which are getting more frequent. We need to encourage development of the facilities available rather than stick to 19th century practices because we are told to.
