One of my colleagues fathers is having his SGC renewed by Northumbria police
and they have asked for a letter of authorisation from the landowner where
he intends to use said shotgun(s). Are they following a new trend of
constabularies ignoring the law and inventing their own or is this just
another example of Northumbria firearms team being petulant? I have heard of
other constabularies trying this sort of thing on so if you have any other
examples let them be known and I will compile a list. The Met in its area
covering N London has a few weird ideas as well so they may join the list.

The police specifically cannot make a licensing decision on that point,
though they can ask the question. ACPO et al made this point to the HAC
that they wanted that power, and the HAC said they didn't agree.
