Ken,
It may be some reassurance to you, to learn that "Rambo wannabe's" is a
figment of someone's fevered imagination, as well as Rambo itself being a
Hollywood fiction.
In a self-defence situation, even when actively being shot at by a nutter (I
have had that misfortune), to actually end someone's life, or even injure
them, no matter how severe the threat, is no easy matter. Especially if you
know what guns can do.
In my own case, I was armed at the time, and whilst shouting at the lunatic
with perhaps the greatest and most deeply felt anger I have ever experienced
in my life (that somebody could willingly endanger a human life), from
semi-safe cover that I reached faster than I would ever have thought
possible, I made a point of displaying that my gun was open, and of no
immediate danger to the fool. It took about 20 minutes of this haranguing,
with repeated shots at my hand holding the gun in an open and safe
condition, to convince the lunatic and the message to sink in.
I don't think I am unusual in the way I reacted. The evidence for this, is
that in America, studies indicate about 2,500,000 defensive uses of firearms
per year. In the VAST majority of those cases, they don't even get fired,
making the attacker aware that you are armed being sufficient, and of the
rest, a warning shot has normally proved sufficient to deter the attack.
So calling up mental pictures of "Rambo wannabe's" is hardly constructive or
relevant, is it?
Bob
