Rather like when I am asked why on earth anyone feels they need a gun
for self-defence, I ask them: "why do you wear a seat belt?"

In the same vein, I was talking to an intelligent woman who is a leading
DNA specialist. I mentioned that I'd been teaching a 12 year old the
fine art of rifle shooting. She retorted, "My son is 17, and I wouldn't
let him *near* a gun." To which I enquired, "I bet you let him drive a
car, though?" She thought about this.
