This was just too good to pass up. He wants to increase the
accuracy of the LSW when it is supposed to be an area weapon?
Accepting a reduced rate of fire? It certainly is reduced
when the bloody thing gets hot, reduced to zero! Its so good
the government is going to scrap it. The only common family
of weapons that ever worked well was the Stoner. Unless you
want to include the Kalishnikov types, but parts were not
really interchangeable. He certainly got the part about
reduced maintenence WRONG!
Proposed mods to the SA-80 are another laugh. Why
wasn't it built right the first time instead of forcing it
on the military to gratify a political aim of the government?
Issuing a tube of Airfix glue to put back the parts that
broke off made it a joke. One comment was especially cogent.
"What use is having a rifle that will shoot the balls of a
gnat at 100 meters if bits keep falling off it?" Comments
from the field trials by the people who would have to use
this piece of crap were rejected instead of being
implemented. Even with all the mods proposed, I would bet
it still will be the only rifle with a stoppage of a
cartridge BEHIND THE BOLT. Increase user confidence? The
best way to do that is to draw the L1A1's out of store and
give the troops a quick course. They are certainly far
more reliable, and actually are a bit lighter than the
SA-80. Hiding behind "complex issues involved" is really
political speak for "We havent got a clue on how to get
out of this mess". In the meantime, peoples lives are being
put on the line while the politicians sit safely in their
padded chairs far from the sharp end.
