Buy off the MoD ? your joking
At Mere in Wiltshire there was a great 600yd range that was used by all.
This was on land owned by the Duke Westminster (Duchy Cornwall?)
The MoD lease came to an end and they not wanted to renew it
Group of Wilts shooters approached MoD and land Agent and tried to get the
range left as it was so that they could take it over. Told by MoD "no way"
we putting range back to as it was (fields) taking away buts, stop tracks
and buildings. Agent said without range Safety Cert they not happy it to be
used even though would be getting new rent.
Cost the MoD tens thousands s to clear away, but they NOT willing to
assist local shooting. They even suggested that they would remove the Range
Safety Cert even though they had been using it for 20 (odd) years, plus
civvies etc without single complaint / problem.
Don't expect ANY help from MoD on buying old ranges for civvies use

How depressing. And short-sighted. Now here is something we could
do successfully politically, lobby the MoD to give shooters first
refusal if they close a range and want to sell it/lease it whatever.
