Video footage from 191 CCTV cameras in West London scrutinised. 80,000 mobile telephone calls made in the area on the morning of the murder are being checked. 486 friends, relatives and contacts listed in her Filofax checked out. The theories: 1. Contract killing ordered by the underworld because of Jill Dando's role in BBC Crimewatch UK programme in helping to catch criminals. Dismissed by police after underworld sources and prison visits discounted the idea. No one has made a bid for the L250,000 reward, which would have attracted informers. 2. Contract killing ordered by someone with a grudge. The gunman made no attempt to disguise himself, used an unusual weapon and had no obvious means of escape. 3. Serbian assassins struck in retaliation for Nato bombing in Kosovo war. No evidence from MI5 or MI6 to back this up. Serbs would have been likely to claim the killing. 4. Work of an obsessive. Favoured theory by police who think the killing was carried out by a loner who had built up a passion for her. Witnesses reported a man seen close to her home acting strangely. 5. Lone stalker with a military background, possibly a policeman or soldier, who is disciplined and familiar with surveillance techniques and firearms. ----------------------- Its high time the whole thing was wound up, its an insult to the relatives of the huge number of unsolved murder victims in the London area (reckoned to be in three figures). If the same money and manpower had been thrown at a dozen of the more mundane unsolved murders in the capital then you would be looking at a significant clear up. Where the hell has this L2 million come from? are we to see yet more easily solvable murders filed away as closed because the fruitless Dando case has diminished the level of justice available to ordinary citizens?
