> What is a "Unique Standard Rifle"?

It is a target rimfire rifle made to UIT specification - I am sending
you a scan of one off list.

You certainly got interesting results when you chrongraphed various
makes of ammunition, which prove that you cannot believe the
advertisements. If I remember correctly Winchester 52 is a target
rifle, but it also has a magasine (5 round?), which makes it useful for
sporting use if you can live with the weight.

What I would like to know is whether anyone knows why some makes of
ammunition shoot so well and others do not and can a good make be
recognised without going through the testing that you carried out.

Is it the bullet size relative to groove size of the barrel that makes
the difference, or the type of lubricant, bullet quality or consistency
of powder charges or what?

Alex.

The general rule of thumb is consistency and keeping the bullet
subsonic for really good accuracy with a .22. There are other factors
but those are the main ones. Most of the others are obvious like
tight tolerances and so on.

Steve.
