        Subject: [COWs] beginner report

        ...

...per COWS membership manual Para 4.1 any beginner is allowed
the
latitude to report rides at will and random until his/her first
ride w/
a peloton ride tackling the 'connor hill' route, w/o walking
their bike
uphill, in 100+ degree no wind bug infested buckhorn muggy
rides.

This being the case, I meet all these Rules 'committee'
regulations,
        here goes:

have ridden the trek 7.3fx technically about 10 times. Most
have been
late night stealth rides w/ winslow thru the wonderful wilson
        neighborhoods.
Very enjoyable. Avg ~20 miles @ ~16mph. Then our rules maker
dared me
for a 6:30am ride and led me thru a steamy 6:30am ride ~16miles
and I am
sure he was laughing all the way as he pulled away on the slight
inclines w/ ease. Good initiation from both winslow and ellis.

Loner ride, hence the new rules, so believe me or not, from
sp/ei/sp
this afternoon from 4-5pm. Great conditions as clouds ruled.
Pulled out
and glanced down noticing I failed to reset my distance/timer.
Bummer
        beginner mistake.
Did not want to stop so just kept riding to ei upwind avg
~15mph. Lot
of cars leaving the island but they were very courteous and it
was a
great loner ride. Return(downwind) avg ~19mph and the sweat was
pouring
and it felt euphoric, probably the downwind senastion kicking
in. I
think it was ~20 mile ride.

I was a little apprehensive about getting out on the street but
it was
        not bad.
I think I have the bug and will try to get up to the 18-20+mph
avg's so
I can share in the pulls someday.

heidi toms tucker, susan toms, steve thomas(your competitive
riding
buddy). eddie (a morehead local) and I swam at the ab circle
this am for
~hour heidi and eddie try to do this every sun @9:30am. Met at
the
public parking lot just west of the crabs claw. It is not bad
at 9:30
am so do not let this sway your opinion about swimming at the ab
circle.
        :) Very fun group!

...and I did wear my helmet in honor of david winslow!
