I nominate Bert to replace Jim Davis as the new COWs president. I also
nominate Tim Sharp to be the "gnat czar."

Seriously, good idea to get three groups. Need a monthly everyone ride
together ride at 16-17.

Subject: [COWs] group bike riding thoughts.....??

First, thanks Kevin for your time and energy spent promoting biking to
the City Council and all you have done to increase the importance of
biking to Wilson.
Awesome. I know your efforts will pay off.

Been on ~10 rides with the COWS group rides. A definite improvement in
my bike skills and abilities and a by-product has been some weight loss.
The most imp aspect is I have met new friends and have had FUN!

Have friends who have started biking but their skills are not up to the
17/18/20/22mph pace. Several have mentioned they would love to ride
but as our group is now they could not keep up. Heck I struggle to do
so but thanks to the encouragement and group mgmt by many of you helps
me a whole lot! Never thought I would love a turtle so much!

It would be neat if we, as COW participants, try to make it so there are
at least 3 groups of abilities riding 7:30am Sat and 2pm Sun.

 >20+mph group: for the masochists
<20-mph group: for the realists
<15-mph: for fun and fellowship/byproduct-FUN exercise

I think the only way to encourage participation is to make sure there
is at the minimum these 3 levels of ability groupings available to ride,
each and every 7:30am and 2pm. We would have to make sure there was at
least 2 riders per group to pull this off. I am just saying it might
take one of us to sacrifice our ability ride if only 1 shows for a
specific group until there is confidence among new riders to show up and
enough would show for their grouping----to make the effort FUN for each
group!

I know there is pent up demand for slower group rides. Those that do
not and can not ride at 18+ just do not show up. I think it should be
up to us to try and build up confidence in COW membership and new
memebers that EVERY time they show up at 7:30am or 2pm they will have a
group to ride with. Heck, there are 144 signed up members and I dare
say maybe ~15 are active bikers on group rides. I know many of us have
significant others who I think would love to ride but/and we should try
to make sure there is a group for their ability every 7:30am/2pm.

If we can help make it as much FUN for new people as it has been for me
then people will show up to have fun and enjoy meeting new people and
let the by-product be exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
This cannot happen over night but what do you guys think and can/should
we pull this off?
