Ok, I know this is getting monotonous but what the heck! John o. and I rode our bikes today along with 3 others from Benson to Tarheel and back to Benson. Early morning clouds were nice for the first 50K. That ended quickly and the temps soared to 92 degrees by the time we reached Tarheel. An early lunch at Subway to retreat from the heat. Several tea refills and I thought they were gonna cut me off. Mile 85 John, Jerry and I arrived in Stedman, 94 degrees, slid over to Andy's for milkshakes and ice cream. Shortly after John fell back to ride with the other two riders and I chased down Jerry out front. He was also sporting a single speed bike. Mile 112 we arrived in Dunn, 95 degrees. Convenient store had a walk-in beer cooler, so Jerry and I entered and camped out on top of cases of Coors light while enjoying some nice cold lemonade. Back in Benson the thermostat finally topped out at 97 degrees. No rain and just a stray cloud every now and then. Another 125 mile ride in the books. These recovery drinks never tasted so good.
