Soreness is slowly dissipating. But the face is looking worse as my black eye grows and turns dark purple. Along with the very swollen and ooozing jaw I'm turning heads when in public - in a shocked kind of way. :) (I know, you could have done without those details.) Went to Cary today to have my bike assessed. I can salvage some components but that's it, frame's compromised and not safe. And they can't tell me when a new frame can be shipped, best guess, October!!!!!!! What's up with that???? Apparently "crash replacement" is at the bottom of the shipment hierarchy. John o. and I rode our bikes today along with 3 others from Benson to Tarheel and back to Benson. Early morning clouds were nice for the first 50K. That ended quickly and the temps soared to 92 degrees by the time we reached Tarheel. An early lunch at Subway to retreat from the heat. Several tea refills and I thought they were gonna cut me off. Mile 85 John, Jerry and I arrived in Stedman, 94 degrees, slid over to Andy's for milkshakes and ice cream. Shortly after John fell back to ride with the other two riders and I chased down Jerry out front. He was also sporting a single speed bike. Mile 112 we arrived in Dunn, 95 degrees. Convenient store had a walk-in beer cooler, so Jerry and I entered and camped out on top of cases of Coors light while enjoying some nice cold lemonade. Back in Benson the thermostat finally topped out at 97 degrees. No rain and just a stray cloud every now and then. Another 125 mile ride in the books.
