I use Cycleops Fluid trainer. Fluid is the best, then magnetic, then Wind in my opinion. Then there are Rollers, but we won't go there as they are so different. Fluid trainers are quiet and smooth, but can be expensive. Other than Cycleops, Kurt Kenetic makes a really good trainer as well.
You have never used one? I use mine A LOT. I did a 3.5 hour ride Sunday afternoon and will be putting in 2 hours tonight. It is one of the reasons my cycling has improved so much. It really is mind numbing, but if you can stay focused and push yourself, you get and incredible workout as there is absolutely no time to "coast" or "cruise". I do 5, 10 and 15 minute intervals with some easier spin, some TT realistic pedaling and cadence, and some climbing where I put on the highest possible resistance and stand. I feel that I get about 125 to 150% of the workout on a trainer that I do on the roads. It is obviously not to be a total replacement of riding on the roads, but getting in good hard workouts at convenient times, in comfortable temps, and in the safety of a living room make it well work it to me. Hope this helps...sorry I got a little long winded... On Tue, Nov 9, 2010 at 11:51 AM, David C. <[email protected]> wrote: > My mom wants an indoor trainer for Christmas.
