Bert - The need for a surgeon depends in part on the nature of the injury. If
this did not need surgery up front, the probability of surgery helping is very
small. You will have some post-traumatic arthritis from this, and you will be
surprised at how long the effects of this injury can linger. I believe that
stretching, yoga etc are very important. Things that cause pain are your
body's way of saying don't do this yet. Turmeric (Indian yellow root) is an
herb that has significant healing qualities and is about as effective for
musculoskeletal pain as NSAID drugs like ibuprofen or Aleve. It is very safe.
If there is bone fx this should be allowed to heal before significant soft
tissue rehab can begin. Heat to this area is effective in promoting healing -
infrared is much superior. Infrared heating pads specifically designed for
shoulder rehab are made (Thermotex on the web). Dr. d

...wth? you need to lay off the heavy round things
that get you muscle bound! :)

Jim Davis was calling out dr lewis martin's name at the
accident scene-- tbw goes to him often. I have found through
my years of taking the kids to the ortho and tbw's mulitple visits
1st they suggest rehab($$$spent), then a xray($$$) than a
cortisone shot($$$$) and then mri($$$$) and then tell you surgery
and/or quit what you are doing. Research the 'net and try to learn
all about the shoulder before a dr's visit so you will know what they
are talking about.

Since the accident I go to the pool and do numerous activities w/
my shoulder just to the point of pain. Most imp, I've been told, is
to drink bunches of water to flush the toxins and a lot of movement
to get the blood flowing to/through the muscles. When I was in the
er I wanted out as quickly as possible cause that is where people die
and/or get bedbugs! :)
