......what a great ride this tues breakfast club ride was. I don't see how
stardude did it but he hung in there after a grueling 50+ medoc mt ride w/
kinnie
tuesday and then had enough to lead a blistering sprint(for us) to lake
wilson rd. Let's
just say we then got set up by the double bob's as they dug in w/ jenniferW
in tow and
proceeded to peel off @ tilghman. Well, jenniferW took the honors (green
jersey or
whatever the trophy is for 1st on lake wilson rd finish. Great ride
jennifer!

This ride was an eventful excursion. I learn something new and to always
expect the
unexpected just about every outing. Some that i feel are imp enough to
discuss. The
pepper spray was just an honest happening that took a different outcome but
we all
survived and to me was not really a problem, just stung a little.
And thanks to stardude for trying to protect
to group from these dogs that are really an owners problem, the dog cannot
help itself.
They are dogs. Dogs want pack leaders, which the owners are oblivious to.
Some people, blah!

A few observations about riding:
1: the pulling cyclist should always be observant of changes in road
conditions, ie: ruts-holes,
rocks, any debris etc and make the proper notification asap for those
drafting. On old bailey
just before the dogs peteW hit an empty plastic bottle(we think) and pulled
off a miracle save,
great job peteW.
This could have been catastrophic! When you are in front make sure to
deviate from the road issue
AND make the proper exaggerated hand signal so those in the rear never have
to make sudden
decisions that might cause a fall. Better to make too many warnings than to
miss one that might
cause an emergency room visit. Today riding there were a few rocks in the
road and as I was pulling
I thought they were not imp enough to warn. Sure enough kim hit one and had
a flat. Always better
to signal or make a safe exaggerated pass around problems to alert those
behind.

2: try to discipline yourself to NEVER hit the brakes when you know the
drafters are right behind!
I did just that during the pepper spray incident and daveW pulled off a
miracle pass by me b/c
of my sudden improper stop. Thanks daveW! --for saving my life! I have
caught myself hitting the brakes
way to often w/ people behind me and it is something I really need to learn
how to handle properly.

3: not sure how to describe this but if a drop occurs---- someone from the
group must be willing to fall
behind and check on the dropee. These bike rides are pretty intense and you
never know what the issue
is. If it might be a health issue, then time could be of the essence. I
think we should be more observant
of the times this occurs just to verify all is ok. Thanks to jamesL for
falling back to ck on us!!!!

I have thoroughly enjoyed riding w/ this group and it surely seems many are
progressing in their cycling
skills and group comradery. It has been a blast!
